I don't do many portraits, but this was one I had long wanted to do — my son and daughter after dinner at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club a decade–and–a–half ago while we were on a family safari in Africa. It's based on a photograph taken there – my favorite of the two together — and one I wanted to capture in oil. Of course, I could have simply pulled them away from the environment, but I liked the ambience of other diners fading into the dark background and some of the dinner dishes still scattered on the table in front of them.
